Nyerere National Park — formerly the Selous Game Reserve — is the largest protected wildlife area in Africa, covering more than seven million acres. It holds one of the world's largest populations of elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, and wild dog, as well as an extraordinary diversity of birds and plant life.
Unlike the well-travelled Northern Circuit, Nyerere receives only a fraction of Tanzania's safari visitors. At Beho Beho, you are likely to encounter no more than one or two other vehicles in an entire day. The wilderness here is genuine.
Each activity delivers a distinct encounter with the bush — and every combination produces a day unlike any other.
Open 4WD vehicles with raised, shaded seating for superior game viewing. Morning and afternoon departures, guided by expert driver-guides.
Armed guides lead walks of two to five hours directly from camp. Only sensible shoes and a sun hat required — and an appetite for the details the vehicle cannot reveal.
A 45-minute drive (longer when game-viewing en route) to Lake Tagalala. A shaded boat excursion of approximately 90 minutes yields extraordinary close-up encounters with hippos, crocodiles, and water birds, concluding with breakfast on the shore.
Beho Beho sits at the junction of five distinct ecosystems: riverine, mountainous, water systems, open and lightly wooded savannah, and mixed miombo woodland. The result is exceptional biodiversity.
The camp itself sits on what appears to be a natural crossroads for animal migration routes. Elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, impala, giraffe, wild dog, warthog, hippo, baboon, and hyena move through camp freely, seemingly unconcerned by human presence.
The floodlit waterhole in front of the main camp is particularly active in the dry season, regularly drawing lion, leopard, serval, and genet cats. The birdlife throughout the reserve is exceptional year-round.
Our guides are ready. The wilderness is waiting.
